DESIGN STUDIO

At Draftsman, we approach each project looking through the lens of storytelling, understanding the context and integration of architecture, interior design, and branding.

We believe in the power of hospitality and that every space should evoke emotion and embrace interaction for guests.  Using this approach, our work spans various styles across restaurants, retail, hotels, workplaces, and residences.

We craft the experience through designing spaces and ensure that all guest touch points--from the lighting levels to the texture of a tile--all tell the same story. We work with our clients and partners to ensure that the final space connects guests to an immersive and memorable experience.

the creative DIRECTOR

Inspired by the many passions of his clients, David Pilkenton founded Draftsman to help owners and developers visualize and bring experiences to life. Creating spaces through the lens of storytelling, Draftsman is a holistic approach to design, where every decision is hospitality-driven and crafted around the guest experience.

Prior to founding Draftsman, David was a lead designer at Streetsense in Washington, D.C. where he worked on creating hospitality, restaurant, and retail spaces for both local entrepreneurs and national developers. There, he led design teams to create experiences for boutique hotels under the Hilton Curio brand. He has worked on dozens of dining, cafe and rooftop bars spaces in various properties in the United States and Mexico including Hilton, Hyatt Place, Marriott Autograph Collection, Curio Collection, Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons. He has also designed restaurants for frequent Top Chef contestant chef Bryan Voltaggio and Food Network celebrity, Robert Irvine.

DAVID'S PAST WORK

All of the above projects and concepts were completed while at Streetsense, where David led his team as Project Designer.
